Crazy Ways to Promote Your Recording Studio

When it comes to the recording studio business, you have a lot of competition. Sadly, if you are operating out of a small facility (or your home), your competitors are probably much larger professional studios. Don't worry - that doesn't mean you are bound to fail. You just need to stand out from the crowd of options for local musicians. Using some outside-the-box promotion techniques can be the tipping point when it comes to spreading the word about your studio.

Maybe you have tried some of the more traditional marketing and advertising methods: ads in the phone book, business cards at the local music shops, flyers, etc. I hope you haven't wasted too much money on advertising. Some of the best ways to market your small recording studio are cheap or free. Here are a few of those ideas...

Sticker mania: people love stickers. Bands know this, and they often give away hundreds of free stickers to their fans. But the crazy thing about stickers is that they don't just end up on notebooks and lying in drawers. Sometimes they end up in odd, but visible places. I'm not advocating this technique, but I once saw a sticker for my band end up on a police car. The cops were shutting down a raucous show, and a kid slapped our sticker on the bumper of the squad car. In less than 5 minutes, every person in the building had heard about it. The exposure was priceless. Imagine getting that kind of exposure for your recording studio. Get stickers printed, give them away gratuitously, and hopefully they will find their way to some unique places. Battle of the bands: this seems like an obvious advertising opportunity, but you would be surprised how many studios have never done this. Organize a battle in your city for the local bands. They will promote the event like crazy, because they want fans to show up and vote for them. Offer recording time in the prize package, and bands will flock to get booked on the show. In no time you'll have instant recognition for your studio from bands all over your city. This is a powerful way to target your audience and potential clients. Throw a party: this technique can be dangerous, so be careful. Hosting a party in your studio for local bands is a great way to get them in the door. They will get to know you, your studio, and they will feel comfortable and at home. That's the best way to convince a band to record with you. You simply tear down the barrier between them and your recording studio. But don't let things get out of hand. Equipment can get broken, drinks can be spilled, or worse. So make sure you are keeping an eye on things during the party.

4 Benefits of Podcasting in Elearning

1. Available 24/7 -The basic advantage of podcasting in education is the portability and convenience of listening to learning resources anytime and anywhere without requiring extensive technical knowledge. Podcasts can be downloaded to all kinds of mobile devices, such as MP3 players, mobile phones, PDAs, and mobile computers. Learning materials downloaded into mobile devices can be listened to by learners in their own time and place.

2. Student Review - A podcast of a lecture that can be downloaded by students can become invaluable study aid for the student. At any given point in time, the student has the podcast available for reference. A student who had difficulty understanding initially, and may not have grasped a topic fully in the classroom, can now learn the material at his or her own pace.

3. Missed Classes - There are certainly many e-learning situations that would benefit from the use of this type of tool. For example, a sick student being able to download a podcast of the days lectures he missed at school, or if a teacher or professor is unable to attend his or her class for some reason, they could make a podcast of their lecture available on a website where students can easily download it. This procedure could easily be implemented to ensure no students miss any lessons or lectures. It is a solution that could be feasible from the primary school level to the university level.

4. Appeals to audio/visual learners - Perhaps, one of the most important pedagogic characteristics offered by podcasting is learning through listening. For many people, listening may be more attractive and less tedious than reading. Listening may motivate and encourage students who do not like reading. Podcasting is also particularly useful when a visual impairment make traditional learning methods more difficult.
